Caitlin + Nathan – Engagement Session

Seven years ago, after completing their University education, Caitin + Nathan travelled to Britain on vacation, loved it and vowed that they would go back one day. Well going back they are and this time for good! They are being married at Cloghan Castle in Galway, Ireland (how romantic is that) and will make their permanent home in London, England.
Since they live in the heart of downtown Toronto, they wanted their engagement session to reflect their Urban Lifestyle here, so they chose Toronto’s historic Distillery District.
Caitlin’s brother and sister-in-law (long time clients of mine) bought the couple an Engagement Session as a Christmas gift and I’m so glad they did. It was a pleasure to meet them, we had a blast during their session and I wish them well in their new life together!
Oh and by the way, Congratulations Nathan for being called to the Bar! My sincere best wishes to you both!

Girls just wanna have fun!

This last blast of cold and snow has me hoping it’s Winters last kick at the can and that warmer days are in our near future! It also had me thinking of an impromptu fun photo session I did last summer with my daughter Lesley and one of her best friends Lindsay, who also happens to be my amazing assistant.

We went scouting for vintage clothing at Value Village (Lindsay’s suggestion…I’d never been there) and ended up buying a vintage wedding dress and hat for Lindsay and a 70′s prom dress for Lesley. The girls did their own hair and makeup (large quantities of it) and we ventured out. Started out in a corn field and finished down at the Lake.

Although this was not an official ‘Trash the Dress’ session, we did trash the dresses as the girls literally ended up in the Lake. That’s right Lake Ontario and they survived! It was such a blast doing something fun, no pressure, totally crazy….with no expectations. This had me giggling again today!
Thanks girls, you were both such good sports, let’s do it again this summer and I promise to pick a different lake!!!!

Whitby Newborn Photography: Baby Annabelle

blog1I’ve probably said a million times that one of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is becoming the ‘Family’ photographer! Having a connection with my wedding clients and a relationship built on trust is so very important to me that to be asked after the engagement session, the wedding day and the maternity session (in some cases) to then photograph the babies is the ultimate compliment.
When asked by parents what they should bring to a newborn session, I generally recommend a special toy, a blanket or something unique to them as a couple. Annabelle’s parents brought along a few special items, my personal favourite being a hand-knitted elephant made by her Great-Grandmother. I loved it so much I inquired if Annabelle’s Great-Grandmother would be willing to knit another for my studio. I’m happy to announce that Great-Grandma has agreed and I’ll be receiving my little elephant in the next few weeks!
Congratulations Heather & Alex, your little angel is adorable!!! Thank you for sharing her with me!!

Heather + Alex Springtime Wedding

blog2Today is an extra special day….I will have the pleasure of photograghing another new bundle of cuteness, little Annabelle, only 14 days old! Planning for this session had me recalling and giggling at memories of her mommy and daddy’s wedding last spring at the University of Toronto’s Hart House. Theirs was my first wedding of the season and believe me an unforgettable one! It was a glorious spring day although we did have thunderstorms in the morning leaving us a bit worried about the outdoor ceremony plans. Mother Nature was ultimately not responsible for the delay in the ceremony, a demonstration at Queen’s Park which had access to the venue blocked, had many guests stranded and the wedding photographer (ME) panicking and arriving about 10 minutes late! Thank goodness for amazing assistants…thank you Lindsay….for dealing with the car and most of the gear and allowing me to run as fast as I could to capture the ceremony. The bride and groom of course had no intention of starting without me, and I was very grateful to have such understanding clients. It’s funny now, but it sure wasn’t at the time…oh well…all’s well that ends well they say and it sure did!
Now they are the parents of a beautiful little girl, and I am thrilled and honoured to be asked to photograph their new little family!!!
Thank you Heather & Alex!

So very classy and so very beautiful…..

…is the only way to describe this recent maternity session. Being asked to document this amazing time for any expectant mother is exceptional but even more so when the mother is a very special friend and fellow photographer. Irina and Mihkel will welcome their new baby next month and since his/her parents are both photographers….will without a doubt become the most photographed baby in Toronto.

Thank you for allowing me to share in the special time with you both….can’t wait to meet Baby Fortey!!!
